I have stopped using cans after all the news about the liners causing cancer. Can you please do a piece on preparing your own tomatoes for cooking . I love all of your cooking tips except the canned tomatoes ..
I have always frozen my tomatoes. I clean and core them then place them in a large Ziploc bag and freeze them until I need them. But as for the cancer info, I believe that if we allow ourselves to stop doing everything that apparently causes cancer, we would live in a cave and never do anything. BTW the cave will have unhealthy effects on our well being also. I mean lets look at this realistically, today they are telling us that the cans cause cancer; but tomorrow they will say that it was the actual processing of the tomatoes that did it. Every decade or so they have new theories and that is what they are; theories. If those cans cause cancer then why are they still being used instead of canning jars?
Micheal I agree with your piont on canned tomatoes but I beg to differ as someone who is in the tomato sauce business that San marzano are the best. Invite me on an episode and we’ll do a taste test together against San Marzano…I aim to educate and prove you wrong in a good way!! LOL
I love that canned tomatoes are just as awesome as August tomatoes! I have been following Chef Michael Smith’s shows for years and have had a ton of success with his recipes – thank you.
I really enjoy the canned tomato tip. I hate rock hard tasteless tomatoes, but I never thought that canned would be any better, I’ve only ever put them in chilli. I’d be interested to know what Adam really thought of that Balsamic ice cream treat.
What about BPA content in canned tomatoes? Can you recommend a company that has BPA-free lined cans?
I totally did not realise this! I hate getting fresh tomatoes cause I never used them fast enough the can ones work most excellent!
Thanks for the tomato tip!!!
Has anyone ever told you that you look AND sound like actor John Corbett? It’s quite uncanny.
